how to make a DIY Faux Fireplace that will transform any living space into a cozy retreat

So here's the thing. I love decorating a fireplace for all the holidays, especially during fall and winter. It's the perfect time to bring out all the festive home decor pieces. Wouldn't you know it since my husband has been in the Army we have not had a house with a fireplace. I finally said that's it, we need a  home with a fireplace. No, we didn't move. Instead I built a faux fireplace that we can take with us wherever the military sends us.

Here's what you will need to make your faux fireplace:

Wood sizes and lengths:

• 1 - 1x12x10
• 1 - 2x8x6
• 1 - 1x8x8
• 1 - 1x6x10
• 2 - 1x4x10

Materials for assembly:

• Miter saw (or have your local hardware store cut all the pieces for you.)
• Brad Nailer
• 1  1/2" 18 gauge brad nails
• Power drill
• 3 inch screws
• Stain 
• White Paint (satin or semi gloss)
• Wood Glue
• ​Sand paper
• Corbels *optional

Here is the finished painted product. You can paint it in any color you'd like.

Cut List:
1 - 1 x 12 @ 51" (bottom)
1 - 2 x 8 @ 51" (top)
1 - 1 x 12 @ 48" (front)
2 - 1 x 8 @ 39 3/4" (front of column)
4 - 1 x 4 @ 51" (sides of columns)
​2 - 1 x 6 @ 51" (decorative front column)
2 - 1 x 4 @ 35" (for front plate decorative piece)
4 - 1 x 6 @ 3/4" (bottom column sides)
2 - 1 x 6 @ 7" (bottom column front)
